Housing solutions for the elderly

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung's Budapest Office, the Progressive Hungary Foundation (MMAA) and the Consultative Council of Senior Citizens' (NYUSZET) in Hungary are organising a joint event on 25 May 2023 on housing solutions that respond to the care needs of elderly people. The event will be held in Hungarian. Nonetheless, please let us draw your attention to some of our English-language publications in the topic of (paid and unpaid) elderly care in Hungary, as the FES in Budapest is working for several years systematically on the topic.

• A publication which is an overview of the current demographic tendencies and the Hungarian care structures for the elderly. The study describes the growing needs, the accessibility and financing of social care for the elderly and it anaylises the different types of caregivers: A. •  A publication which is a deep anaylsis of the working conditions of employees in elderly care. The study focuses on Hungary, but it gives a European-wide outlook: A. • A short analysis on the effect of the pandemic on Hungarian women which highlights the fact that women are overrepresented in the social services jobs that were in the frontline of the Covid-crisis and also the challenges families with small children and elderly relatives who needed to be cared for had: E. • A publication which had the purpose to find out what ‘women’s affairs’ are for Hungarian women and what society, both women and men, think about these.
