The far-right in Hungary

"The Hungarian Far Right - Social Demand, Political Supply, and International Context" is the first English-language book on right-wing extremism and right-wing populism in Hungary. On February 7, 2018 we organized a book presentation in cooperation with Political Capital followed by a panel discussion. The co-author of the book, Péter Krekó presented the main theses of the book and also addressed the current developments in the right-wing political spectrum in Hungary. Thereafter two political scientists Zsolt Enyedi (Central European University, Budapest) and Zsuzsanna Végh (European University Viadrina, Frankfurt a.O.) discussed the interplay between the political parties Fidesz and Jobbik, their strategies and approval ratings. It also addressed the vulnerability of democracy in Hungary and, as a result, the increase in popularity of Fidesz and Jobbik. The book presentation and the subsequent discussion highlighted of current developments in the right-wing political spectrum and provided new insights and key learnings.  The panel discussion concluded with many questions from the audience.
