Die überraschende Niederlage des Fidesz-Kandidaten bei der Bürgermeisterwahl in Hódmezővásárhely hat die öffentliche Debatte in Ungarn über eine Kooperation zwischen links-liberalen Parteien und der rechtsextremen Jobbik-Partei bei den Parlamentswahlen im April 2018 neu entfacht.
Wir weisen daher auf die folgenden zwei englisch-sprachigen Publikationen aus dem Dezember 2017 zu diesem Thema hin: Péter Krekó argumentiert, dass 2018 die letzte Möglichkeit zur Ablösung der Fidesz-Regierung sein könnte, die aktuell eine größere Gefahr für die Demokratie und Integrität der EU darstellt als Jobbik. Ildikó Lendvai, ehemalige Vorsitzende der Ungarischen Sozialistischen Partei (MSZP) argumentiert in ihrem Artikel gegen eine Kooperation mit Jobbik. Eine dritte Publikation in deutscher Sprache von Magdalena Marsovszky beschäftigt sich auch mit dieser Fragestellung und argumentiert, dass eine Zusammenarbeit mit Jobbik anti-demokratische Tendenzen fördern würde.
