FES in Budapest

The FES Office in Budapest

Shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the following political changes, the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) founded its country office Budapest in 1990. It aims to accompany Hungary in its transformation process to democracy and freedom in a documentary and advisory way. Since autumn 2007, we have been following this task at our current location, Fővám tér 2-3 in the 5th district of Budapest.

The work of FES in Budapest and our partners

The FES is committed to the fundamental values of social democracy: freedom, justice, solidarity, peace and cooperation. As a "service provider of social democracy", we want to contribute to more democracy, the rule of law, social justice in the state and society, as well as to the German-Hungarian cooperation in a joint Europe. These principles are reflected in the spectrum of our partners in politics, trade unions, the media and society.

In the interaction between politics and society, the FES works in Hungary as an “agency of dialogue” for:

  • Specialist events with national and international experts and decision-makers
  • Analyses and reports on questions of Hungarian and German society and politics as well as on Europe
  • Information and training programs
