Inequalities in the EU and the economic order of the future

We cordially invite you to the first event of the English language discussion series with leading authors on the political economy of Hungary in the European context, in cooperation between Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Budapest and Új Egyenlőség (New Equality) Magazine for Social Theory on March 01, 2022 at 6.00 p.m. online.

Inequalities in the EU and the economic order of the future . The guest of the event Dr. Björn Hacker is Professor of European Economic Policy at the University of Applied Sciences (HTW)

How big are the developmental gaps in the EU? Have they decreased? What are the main factors behind the development of social inequalities in and between member states? Which are the strengths and weaknesses of the EU’s social pillar? Which role for national social policies? Was the shift from a rather austerity-oriented approach during the euro crisis to a countercyclical, Keynesian approach during the covid crisis a good thing? Is this shift sustainable, or is inflationary panic going to bring back fiscal conservatism?
