"Ungarische Mitglieder des Europäischen Parlaments - Was haben sie für Dich getan?" - Mit dieser rhetorischen Frage beschäftigte sich am Freitag, den 29. September, eine Veranstaltung im Európa Pont in Budapest, die vom Forschungsinstitut Policy Solutions und dem Büro der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Budapest organisiert wurde.
In der Eröffnung betonten Andrea Lővei (European Parliament Information Office Budapest) und Jan Niklas Engels (FES Budapest) die Herausforderung, die gefühlte Distanz zu den Mitgliedern des Europäischen Parlaments (MEPs) zu überwinden. Die Arbeit, Motivation und Überzeugungen der MEPs dem Publikum näherzubringen, wurde zum Ziel des Abends deklariert.
Tamás Boros (Policy Solutions) präsentierte dazu zunächst die von Policy Solutions und der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung gemeinsam durchgeführten Studie "Was ungarische Mitglieder des Europäischen Parlaments seit 2014 erreicht haben". Er gewährte einen Einblick in die Methoden und Maßstäbe, politische Aktivität zu messen, und stellte die Ergebnisse der Studie vor: Zwischen der Präsenz von MEPs in den ungarischen Medien und deren tatsächlicher Aktivität im Europäischen Parlament bestehe eine deutliche Diskrepanz. Viele Arbeiten, die dort verrichtet werden, blieben unsichtbar.
Daraufhin diskutierten Abgeordnete des Europäischen Parlaments, Tibor Szanyi (MSZP) und Benedek Jávor (Párbeszéd), rund um die Thematik, was MEPs in Straßburg und Brüssel für ihre Wähler, für ihr Land und für Europa tun. Sie bestätigten die Resultate der Studie und lieferten Beispiele aus ihrem Alltag. Darüber hinaus berichteten sie von der Heterogenität der Zusammenarbeit von Fraktionen und Teams sowie der damit verbundenen Effizienz der jeweiligen MEPs. Im Anschluss wurden Fragen aus dem Publikum beantwortet, die auch die europäische Politik und Integration im Allgemeinen betrafen
