NATO@70: The Road Ahead

In addition to preserving collective security, new challenges of the 21st century, such as climate change, terrorism and cybercrime need to be addressed. In this context cooperation with the European Union and the prospect of a future European army should not be neglected and the alliance could play a decisive role in dealing with the major powers like USA, Russia and China. In the age of globalization and geostrategies, even a global institution like NATO needs a new sense of mission and a renewed identity that will enable it to act adequately in this fundamentally new historical context.
