How to integrate refugees? MP Aydan Özoğuz, former German Minister of State for Migration, Refugees and Integration, discussed this issue among others in Budapest.
In 2016, a six-year long, transnational project ‘The National Integration Evaluation Mechanism' (NIEM) was launched. It analyzes integration policies towards beneficiaries of international protection in 15 EU-member states with the aim to collect evidence on gaps in integration standards, identify promising practices and evaluate the effects of legislative and policy changes. NIEM should provide key actors in the integration field in the EU with the information necessary to better face the current challenges and improve integration outcomes.
For the presentation of the first results a public conference brought together representatives of 15 NGOs, think tanks and research institutes as well as more than 100 guests.
From Germany MP Aydan Özoğuz participated in the event. She debated with Jon Hoisaeter (UNHCR), Enikő Csontos (European Commission), Hazem Aboyouness (Ibn Rushd Study Association (Sweden) and Tamim Nashed (European Council for Refugees and Exiles ECRE). The panel was moderated by András Kováts of the Hungarian Menedék Hungarian Association for Migrants.
A summary of the event and the public panel is available as video here.
The conference was organized in cooperation with the Hungarian NGO Menedék , the Polish Institute of Public Affairs and the NGO Migration Policy Group.
